Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe. Congratulations to our Varsity Boys Basketball Team on their victory in the Tournament of Champions semi finals this afternoon. I also thank and congratulate their parents and supporters who came out to support them. Now for the third year in a row we move on to the final game Monday March 18, 2024 at 8:00 PM at the Kearny Retreat Center Gymnasium, 400 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. Our prayers will be with the team to continue playing as a team and demonstrating their outstanding sportsmanship.
This week will be a full week of school as we enter the fifth week of Lent. Please make a note in your calendar that Wednesday March 27, 2024 will be a 1:00 PM dismissal to begin our Spring recess instead of Thursday March 28, 2028. We will be closed March 28- Holy Thursday and Good Friday March 29, 2024 April 1 thru April 5, 2024. With the exception of our Pre-K 3 and Prek-4 who will be open half days April 2 thru April 5, 2024 with dismissal at 12:00 each day.
This Tuesday March 19, 2024, PreK-3&4. KIndergarten, and First Grade will Travel to Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. All monies are due Monday March 18, 2024 with permission slips. If your child is not attending the trip, they must remain at home. Please send any money into school in an envelope with your child's name on it. No student can attend the trip without a signed permission slip. Lunch will be provided , Buses leave school by 9:15 AM and Return by 2 PM.Students must come to school regular hours. Chaperones should arrive by 8:30 AM
Any outstanding fees, breakfast/lunch, tap dance, hip hop Horseback Club, Nail Tech must be paid immediately or child will not be able to participate.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are safe and well. Did you remember to turn your clocks ahead one hour? It's Daylight Savings Time now until November. Congratulations to our JV Girls Basketball Team for a game well played Saturday. Despite losing by only one point in overtime they played a magnificent game. It is their only loss of the season. Today our Varsity boys basketball team for the third year in a row, won the Essex County Basketball Game against Aquinas Academy and now will represent All Essex County Elementary Teams in the Tournament of Counties next weekend. We wish to thank all of our teams and fans for coming out to support our teams this weekend.
Report Cards will be distributed for grades K thru 8, Monday March 11, 2024. Parent/Teacher Conferences will only be held for those students who teachers have an academic concern. You will be notified by your child's teacher to schedule an appointment.The Winter Map Test reports for grades 2 thru 8 will be sent home with the report card.
All fees breakfast/lunch, after school activities, Fundraiser money is now due. Students will not be allowed to participate in after school activities if the fee is not paid.

Good evening Saint Joseph School community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe.I wish to congratulate our three basketball teams who played in the CYO league round one and semi-finals this past weekend. Our Jv girls and varsity boys basketball teams advanced to the finals to be played next weekend at Mount Saint Dominic Girls gymnasium, Caldwell, New Jersey.
Breakfast and Lunch bills for January and February are due . Please send the amount due to the office.The monthly fees for Tap dance, Hip/hop. Nail Tech and the Horseback Club are also due..
There is still monies outstanding for the boxes of World Chocolate Candy bars. If not paid by March 15, 2024and you were given candy , the amount owed will be added to your April tuition. Please call Ms. Courtney if there are any questions or concerns.
The third trimester begins Monday March 4, 2024. You will be notified by the end of this week if your child's teacher needs to have a conference with you to discuss their academic progress through the second trimester.
We are quite concerned about the number of lates. Students in grades K thru 8 are to be in school in the gym by 8:00 AM for morning announcements and prayers.
Remember to apply for the Scholarship for Inner City Children. If you need help applying, there is a Night of assistance March 13 at the Archdiocese Center in Newark.You must make an appointment.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe.Congratulations to our JV Girls Basketball Team for winning the 2024 JV Girls Frenzy Championship today at the 50th Anniversary of the Frenzy Tournament at Our Lady of Sorrows in South Orange. Our school should even be more proud of the compliments we receive for our school team and fans for our sportsmanship and support of this annual tournament. Today we also ended our regular season play in the CYO league. Now all teams go to the playoffs. The playoff schedule will be announced later this week.
All monies and order forms for the third Fundraiser were due Friday February 23, 2024.We will accept all monies and forms Monday morning February 26, in the office. We must mail these forms out by Tuesday February 27, 2024. No monies or forms will be accepted after Monday morning.
World Chocolate money is due as soon as possible. We have NO more boxes of candy.
In order to raise funds for supplies our Summer Program , we have a snack shop where snacks are sold to our students after lunch.

We're back in school Tuesday February 20, 2024 regular school hours for all classes.We have two weeks left to the Second Trimester for grades K thru 8. March 1, 2024 end the trimester.
Please make sure your children have completed all assignments and made up any tests they might have missed. All assignments must be handed in and completed by March 1, 2024.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I pray all are safe and well. The snow storm was as predicted and hopefully everyone got through it safely.
School will open Wednesday February 14, 2024 regular hours All students are to wear their gym uniforms. If students wear boots , they must bring their sneakers to change into. Please travel carefully to school and work as the roads may be slippery. The streets are clear around the school.
Wednesday February 14 is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten Season. We will have our school Mass in the school gymnasiumat 9:00 AM. If you do not wish your child to receive ashes they are to come forward to the Altar with their arms crossed across their chest to receive a blessing.
Thursday February 15. This will also be Sports Picture Day and Kindergarten and 8th grade graduation picture retakes. If you wish a retake you must return the graduation proofs you received. New students will have their pictures taken. Basketball players are to bring their uniforms to school with the form and money or the confirmation number if you have paid online for the Sports pictures. Players will be given time to change into their uniform at school.
Valentine's Day will be celebrated on Thursday February 15. This is our red, pink and white Valentine's Day Tag Day. Tag day dress code policy will be in effect. No torn, distressed or written on jeans or tee shirts. Donation $2.00.
Brief remnder, the 15th of the month tuition is due.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I hope all are well and safe. What a beautiful weekend. Congratulations to our basketball teams as we are moving to the end of season.We thank all who come out to suppotr teams whther they win or lose.
Winter is still holding on as snow is predicted for Tuesday, how much is still unknown. Please listen to the forecast. Safety for all is our main concern. Right now the prediction is for the heaviest of the snow is to begin during travel time to work or school and end mid day. Let's now wait and see. It depends on the weather Tuesday if we will have a 1:00 dismssal Friday 2/16.
Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent falls on Wednesday February 14. We will have Mass @ 9:00 AM in Church. If you do not wish your child/children to receive ashes on their foreheads, please tell them to cross their arms as they go up to the Altar , but they will be blessed. We will celebrate Valentine's Day on Thursday February 15, 2024. Celebrations and Valentine's Tag Day Red, Pink, White, Donation $2.00. Your child's homeroom teacher has sent out a flyer as to what they would like you to bring in for their celebration.
Our Sports Picture Day is Thursday February 15, 2024. Pictures will be taken of our basketball players, and teams, Kdg and 8th grade graduation retakes and pictures of any new students. Forms will be givn out on Monday February 12, 2024 for Sports pictures. Any retakes, graduation picture retakes, students must bring the proofs back. New students pictures are taken in their school uniform.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe. Finally the sun shined this weekend. We welcome back and continue to pray for Ms. Hobbs and her family. We also continue to pray for Ms. Rivers and her family. Special prayers are requested for Mr. Rowley our morning doorkeeper who has not been feeling well. Congratulations to all our basketball teams who played both Saturday and Sunday, here at Saint Joseph gymnasium. I am so proud of the sportsmanship they showed during their games. We thank our school community for the support given to the Athletic Association.
The Breakfast and Lunch menus for the month of February are posted on our Website. Please review them daily.
Map testing will resume this week for grades 2-8. They must be completed by Friday February 8, 2024. Students who have been absent will make up parts missed during their gym, recess or after school if necessary
Parents who still owe fundraiser balances received brochures for our third fundraiser. It's fromFebruary 1 thru March 1, 2024. If you have met your $500.00 obligation and wish to participate in the third fundraiser, please contact the off anyone with money outstanding for the World Chocolate boxed candy, please send the money in as soon as possible.
We are planning field trips for our classes, anyone who has outstanding obligations , lunch, tag days or extra curricular activities will be restricted from participating in them.
Please check you child's book bags and folders daily for notices and invoices from the school. SInce we are audited by the State for immunizations, if you receive a notice and it is in error, please contact Ms. Barnes at the school office.

This week we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. The theme is "United in Faith and Community." The calendar of activities is posted on the school web page. Each day has a different theme. Students can participate in the tag day theme each day for $1.00 a day or $5.00 for the week. Tag day dress policy is in effect each day. No distressed, torn or written on jeans or tee shirts. New and old families are invited to tour the school .We have invited speakers to speak to our students during assemblies scheduled. Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe.. We thank you for your cooperation in the unpredictable weather we experienced last week. Hopefully, we are praying this is over for the remainder of the school year. Please continue to pray for the soul of Ms. Hobbs' mother and pray for Ms. Hobbs and her family.

We are in the Snowing Season where we just have to be prepared for the unexpected weather and cold temperatures, "Be Prepared". School will re-open Wednesday January 17, 2024. Due to the ice and extremely cold temperatures, please follow these directives.
_ We will have a delayed opening at 10:00 AM. For those parents/guardians who need to drop off before 10:00 AM, ,beginning at 6:30 AM, this will be
available.@Telford Street.
_ All Students will enter through the main entrance on Telford Street.including PreK 3 & Prek-4. K thru 8 will be directed to the gym.
_ Breakfast will be served from 7:30 AM until 9:50 AM
_Instruction will begin in the classrooms at 10:00 AM
_ Parents/guardians must email their child's teacher if they will be absent. Grade 2 , email Ms. Cavaness@kcavaness@stjosepheo.
_Students in all grades may wear their gym uniforms on days when the temperature is below 32 degrees.
_ If students wear boots to school they must bring their sneakers or shoes to change into while in school.

The school has been in touch with East Orange City Hall about clearing the streets around the school. We will continue to keep in touch with them for the traveling safety of our entire school community. Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I hope all are safe and well. With a heavy heart I ask for your prayers of comfort and peace for Ms. Hobbs and family, our second grade teacher, whose mother passed this evening after a long illness. Ms. Hobbs is a faithful, dedicated teacher here at SJS for over 30 years.
We will send more information in the next few days about arrangements for her mother and coverage for her class as we must make sure her class's education continues.
Monday January 15, 2024 school is closed in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday. A day to reflect on what he encouraged and inspired the world to become.
School reopens Tuesday January 16 regular hours, depending on weather forecast.
Map Testing begins Tuesday January 16., 2024 thru February 9, 2024 for grades 2 thru 8. Please make sure your child arrives to school on time, eats a good breakfast, gets a good night rest and encourage them to take their time and do their best. testing is done only in the morning.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I pray all are well and safe. The first snow of the season came and went and I pray all are safe.Congratulations to all our basketball teams who played at SJS this afternoon.Win or lose you all represented our school well. Thank you to all our families who came out to support our teams.
Please make a note this week Monday thru Thursday are full days of school with all activities. Friday will be a 1:00 PM Dismissal due to a much needed Faculty/staff Meeting needed for planning up coming events for January and February.. There will be No Aftercare on Friday. January 12 2024. Also note School will be closed Monday January 15 in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
There are boxes of World Finest Chocolate still available for sale. Just call the office if you wish a box. It is important that you check your child's bookbag daily. Important notices, sometimes invoices, are sent home . Your child's bookbag should also be checked to see if homework assignments are done. Too many times we are hearing that you did not receive a notice or invoice. Please work with us to make sure your child is giving you all notices and invoices if they receive one.
Thursday January 11- 8th Grade Graduation Picture Day. Students to wear school Uniform with Blue oxford button down collar shirts, Boys must wear School Tie with shirt. Pictures will be taken in their Caps& Gowns which are in the school.
Also make up pictures for new students, or retakes for students who need pictures retaken. Faculty and Staff who did not take picture, must take picture for School ID...

New Year's Blessings to our Saint Joseph School Community. I pray all are well and safe. I hope everyone had a peacefull, restful holiday recess. As we begin a new year, we know not what the future holds for us, but we know as God safely guided us through 2023, He will continue to bless and guide us through 2024.
Saint Joseph School reopens Wednesday January 3, 2024, regular school hours and activities. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Breakfast will be cereal with a fruit and juice. Lunch will be a chicken patty on bun with vegetables. Breakfast/ lunch menus will be distributed on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
All tuition through December, breakfast and lunch fees through November must be paid in order for your child/children to return to school on Wednesday January 3, 2024. All activity fees are due by Friday January 5, 2024 for your chidl/chidren to continue to participate. Notices were sent out to families who have not met the $500.00 fundraiser obligation. Good Evening Saint Joseph School Community. I pray all continue to be well and safe. As we enter the last week of school for the 2023 year, we will continue to pray that God will continue to richly bless and keep each one of us in His care
This week is full days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will be a 1:00 dismissal and No Aftercare. Friday begins our Christmas recess thru January 2, 2024. School re-opens Wednesday January 3, 2024.
Wednesday December 20, 2023 will be our Christmas Concert presented by Grades PreK thru grade 5 @ 9:30 AM in the school gymnasium. Those parents/guardians who wish to attend are invited to come and the donation is $3.00. The program will be zoomed also. Notices were sent home as to what attire the students should wear to school on Wednesday.
Class Christmas Parties will be held Wednesday December 20 in the afternoon after lunch in the classrooms.
Students will be given recess projects or assignments to do over the Christmas recess. They are due to be turned in on Wednesday January 3, 2024 .

This past Friday the First Trimester Parent/Teacher Conferences were held either in-person or virtual .It is the policy that the report cards are given to the parent/guardian not to the student. Good afternoon Saint Joseph School Community. We continue to pray that all are well and safe. We all have so much to be thankful during this season We ask for your prayers for special intentions for those who are in need of our prayers that God will strengthen and keep them in His care.
This is an important message being sent so we may all prepare for the week ahead. It seems despite our efforts to be vigilant in disinfecting, cleaning, hand washing, we just can't seem to do enough to protect ourselves from these viruses. COVID is alive and spreading, the flu is on the rise and just the general cold. We must go back to wearing masks and keeping our distance. If your child is sick and complains of any symptoms, headache, coughing, chills fever, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, body aches, please keep them home and possibly see a doctor.
All faculty and staff and anyone entering the building coming to the office must wear a mask. Parents/guardians it is optional for students, but it is highly recommended that students wear a mask while in school. Please encourage your child about social distancing, hands free, and avoid touching their neighbor while in
school. .
This week is a short week. School will be open full days only Monday November 20 and Tuesday November 21 full days. We will be closed Wednesday November 22 thru Friday November 24. We will reopen Monday November 27, 2023. There will be aftercare.
The first Trimester will close this week. Any outstanding work must be completed by Tuesday. Students grades K thur 8 who have been out ill, will be given consideration by their teacher of work not completed due to illness. Any questions or concerns may be directed to their teacher by email.

Good evening Saint joseph School Community. I continue to pray that all are well and safe. Did you turn your clocks back one hour? I hope you enjoyed this beautiful weather we had this weekend. as we enter this season of Thanksgiving let us remember to thank God for the many blessings he has showered us all with. Please continue to pray for World Peace. During the month of November the Catholic Church celebrates Black History Month in memory of Black Saints and all who have passed on to heaven.
I must bring to your attention that as the weather is changing and flu season is here it is affecting many children who might have respiratory conditions, If your child is not feeling well , please keep them home. if a child is absent three or more days, a doctors note is required in order to return to school. Also Covid is still around. Remind your child about washing hands and using hand sanitizer. Right now mask are optional. The school has been disinfected over the weekend. It is important that we have your emergency information in the event we need to get in touch with you. If you change your number or move, the school office must be informed of any changes.
We now are in a second fundraiser "World Chocolate Bars" If you wish to participate, call the office or stop by and pick up a box, Each box costs $60.00. This can help you meet your fundraising commitment if he haven't already met the $500.00 obligation.
Please remember, Thursday November 9, 2023 is a 1:00 PM Dismissal for all classes and there is No Aftercare. Friday Only grade 8 will dismiss at 1:00 Pm due to their HSPT Test. If your child needs to remain, please contact the school office. Lunch will be served both days.

This week is a full week of school.
Tuesday October 31st we will have Halloween Costume Celebration for Grades PreK-3rd Grade.
Please no swords, masks, or any additional objects will be allowed in the building.
Students in grades PreK-3rd may wear their costumes to school.
4th-8th Grade will have a Tag Day for $1.00.
Students may dress in Halloween or Fall colors.
There will be no Tag Day on Thursday November 2nd.

You may pick up the chocolate boxes before November 1st.

This week is a full week of school. Regular entrance and dismissal times. Grades 2 thru 5 will visit Doyle Farms, Tuesday October 24, 2023. Students must arrive regular time 8:00 AM. Buses will begin loading at 8:30 AM. They will leave promptly at 9:00 AM. Students are to wear their gym uniforms. Students who do not eat school lunch must bring their lunch. Lunch will be provided for other students. Students may bring money to shop in souvenir shop. Students should arrive back at school between 3:15 and 3:30 PM. Aftercare will be available. Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. This is an IMPORTANT Announcement. Parents/Guardians of Students who received a scholarship from Scholarship Fund for Inner city Children.
If you will be attending the event at Seton Hall University on October 26, 2023 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM sponsored by SFIC with Eric LeGrand the Rutgers Football player who was injured and now has an amazing organization "Believe" You must call St. Joseph School office or email kcavaness@stjosepheo.com if you will be attending. I received a call today from SFIC needing the number of persons attending so they can make sure they have enough refreshments.
The Scholarship Fund has helped many of our families with the scholarships which help you afford the tuition here. We are a school who receives many scholarships and we need to support these events given by SFIC throughout the school year.
Please let us know Tomorrow, October 17 if you will be attending and how many in your family will attend. They have even invited students and families who did not receive scholarships.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray for everyone's safety and health. We have been asking for our students to pray for world peace and pray for the souls of those who have lost their lives.
Those families who received scholarship awards from the Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children are asked to register by this Thursday October 19 for the event featuring Eric LeGrand at Seton Hall University on Thursday October 26 from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM . It is important that St. Joseph School participates. We are one of the elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Newark who has a large number of students who receive the scholarships. Even if you did not get a scholarship, students are invited to attend, Eric LeGrand is the Rutgers football player who was injured during a football game that left him paralyzed. Please St. Joseph let us show up and support this event. You must register for this event, Call Daisy Espana at 973-497-4581 or email daisy,espana@rcan.org.
On Wednesday October 18 grades Pre-K thru 1 will travel to Doyle Farm , in Flemington, NJ and on Friday October 20, grades 2 thru 5 will travel to Doyle Farm.
Students are to wear their gym uniforms and school lunch will be provided. If your child does not eat school lunch, they are to bring their lunch.
Students are to arrive at their regular time. Those students not attending are to remain home. Students can bring spending money. Place in envelope with name , grade and amount.
Please encourage and discuss with your child/children that taking part in ay school activities, field trips, basketball, and extra curicular activities is a privilege. It requires following school policy of good behavior, completing class assignments, and being respectful at all times.

Good evening Saint Joseph School Community. I continue to pray that everyone is well and safe. Praise God that the rains have finally stopped and we can look forward to a dry, sunny week. October has arrived and we're looking forward to the month of the Rosary, as we pray daily to our Mother Mary. who continues to intercede and protect all of us.
This week one of our afterschool activities will begin Learning to design Nails for girls in grades 6 thru 8. All girls participating must have a signed permission slip, donation $25.00 a month. The class will take place Monday and Wednesday from 3-5PM in the computer lab . The girls will be dismissed from Tremont Avenue exit. The other activities will take place beginning the week of October 9, 2023.
Boys and Girls basketball workouts and tryouts schedules will be sent home this week. Please lookout for the basketball parent meeting announcement soon.
This week's activities are as follows:
Fall Map Testing for grades 2 thru 8 will begin Tuesday October 3, 2023. Please make sure your child is getting a good night sleep, eats a good breakfast and does not become stressed. These tests advise the administration and teachers .of where there are gaps and guide in instruction in reading , math and language arts.
Testing will be done in the mornings only.
Monday thru Thursday are full days of school. Friday is a 1:00 dismissal with aftercare provided. The charge for those needing aftercare i1:00-3:00 is $20.00. If your child is enrolled in aftercare, no additional charge.
The monthly Breakfast/Lunch menus for October will be posted on the school Web page. The Fall Fundraiser has been extended to Friday October 13, 2023. All order forms and monies are due. You may place orders online.
Please review the Student/Parent Handbook about tardies. Students grades K thru 8 must be in the gym by 8:00 AM or before. Students are considered late if they arrive at 8:00 AM. Good evening Saint Joseph School Community, I continue to pray that all are well and safe. Congratulations to our school community as we got off to a great start despite the challenges of the heat Let us continue to pray and work together to meet all challenges we may face this schoolyear.
Students should come dressed in their gym uniforms on their gym days only. Due to the delay in delivery from our vendor, ,students may wear navy blue sweat pants with a gold or yellow tee shirt
The students in grade K-8 must be in the gym by 7:55AM or earlier .At 8:00AM they must enter through Telford Street. They will be considered late. Students must be in school uniform if not their gym day. Re-cycled clothing will be available after each meeting this week on the school stage.
Please prepare students the night before school so hey can arrive on time and have all that they need for school. Since all schools are open, please plan your travel time. Please make sure you have signed up for aftercare. The building opens at 6:30 AM each day Grades K-8 Breakfast served 7:30 AM-7:55 AM in little cafeteria.
This week we will have very important information meetings. Beginning at 5:00 PM you may arrive to fill out documents which must be kept on file for the school year

The following is our schedule for the opening of Saint Joseph School. This week will be full days of school with no aftercare. Aftercare will begin Monday September 11, 2023. Breakfast and lunch will be served. You may drop off beginning 6:30 AM if necessary at Tremont Avenue entrance.
Monday September 4- School Closed'
Tuesday September 5- Pre K 3 and Pre-K 4 opens; Hours 7:30 AM=4:00 PM- Entrance and Dismissal Crawford Street Entrance No Aftercare
Wednesday September 6- Friday September 8: Grades K-8 OPENS:. Arrival 8:00 AM: Students enter through Tremont Avenue. Prayers and Announcements will be held every morning in gymnasium. Please do not drop off in front of door on Tremont Avenue.
Dismissal 2:50 PM: Crawford Street: Grades K, 1, 2, Telford Street- Grades 3, 4, 5 Tremont Ave- Grades 6, 7, 8.
Breakfast and Lunch will be served beginning first day of school. We do not heat food brought from home. We are a Peanut Free School. Healthy Snacks are encouraged. Menus for all grades will be messaged on Monday September 4, 2023. Pre-k classes meals are served in classrooms. Breakfast for Grades K-8 served in little cafeteria 7:30 AM-7:55 AM. Please make sure all students items are marked with first and last name.
This year is a new beginning for Saint Joseph School Community. Tardiness will not be acceptable. If we are looking to establish positive partnerships, we must establish good habits to inspire our students to be the best they can be.
The school office hours will be 7:30-3:30 PM. All other hours are by appointment only.
